Summary/Abstract Industry 4.0 can be proved as a bonus for the enterprises adopting it. It consists of plethora of technologies, among them two are Augmented Reality and the Internet of Things. Augmented Reality is a technology which is proving good enough to be used for training purpose and maintenance purpose. But in this era, we need to carry out maintenance of Turbodiesel engine which is used in day to day vehicles. It can be possible only if we integrate Augmented Reality (AR) with the Internet of Things (IoT). In this research work, an Augmented Reality (AR) system integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) system for remote maintenance by real-time monitoring of various parameters along with its sequence of assembly and disassembly of the Turbodiesel engine is presented. In AR system, the 3D model of the Turbodiesel engine is acquired, and its sequences of maintenance are created in illustrate software and integrated into Augmented Reality (AR) software. Thus by scanning in mobile using appropriate view app of AR software, AR experience can be viewed. Real time data monitoring for health of machines is possible with the help of IoT. Overall both the technologies help in revolutionizing the remote maintenance in industries thereby making it easy and user friendly in circumstances. Several technological limitations and lack of sufficient knowledge has prevented these technologies from using in industries in past. This research work mainly focuses on the conceptual framework creation by integration of these two technologies for remote maintenance of machines or products in industries and introduces it to the industrialists and quotes the significance and benefits that will be obtained on interaction with them if implemented.

Summary/Abstract In present times, best in class industries are embracing the emerging technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Internet of Things (IoT) in Industry 4.0 which indicate the enhanced benefits in remote maintenance application. The data visualization and advantage of predictive maintenance data for timely delivering the maintenance assistance in AR format is only possible through the integration of AR and IoT. This convergence superimposes data and information from the digital world back into our physical environment to experience it in a single and combined context in the form of AR dashboards. Within this single window, technicians can leverage the IoT data and vital insights from the digital world while taking action in the physical using AR based 3D instructions as compared to systems using AR or IOT in isolation. The combo can bring a translation of IoT data into visualized data that will simplify decision-making related to maintenance. This research presents a remote monitoring & maintenance system developed using integration of AR and IoT. Two case studies were conducted at a lift frame fabrication company Shree Krishna Fabricators and a CNC manufacturing company. The process of replacing the hydraulic seal in the breakdown of a hydraulic press brake machine is considered for remote maintenance system application. Post discussion with the Shree Krishna Fabricators, it was observed that the developed system if implemented can provide the reduction in the production downtime by 80%, decrease in worker overloading to meet the deadlines and cost to the company due to worker health by 16%, it can provide deskilling of the work content, increase in customer satisfaction and new business opportunities. Whereas, in case of CNC manufacturing company it was observed that the system can provide the assistance to maintenance in conditions of remote sales support, it can reduce the service delivery cost and can provide the prior information about the failures.

Summary/Abstract Thermal expansion and vibration in piping and other equipment’s are commonly observed conditions for process/power plant industries. In which the components are subjected to differential pressure and temperature. Such changes under constrained conditions may lead to differential thermal expansion and hence failure due to high thermal stresses. In such cases, Expansion joints are used to compensate for these thermal expansions/contractions in the system while sustaining the other service conditions. Bellows is the main part in Expansion joints assembly that primarily deals with the accommodation of thermal expansions. Bellows are versatile components; however, that creates designing a bellow more challenging. Various codes/standards like ASME (appendix 26), EJMA, EN standards, TEMA etc. provides guidelines for designing expansion bellows. Bellows behave contrarily, depending on loading conditions and the end application. The design methodologies provided by various Codes and Standards vary with each other, hence understanding of underlying design concepts provided by these methodologies need detailed understanding. Considering this, detailed comparative study of methodologies by these code/standards is necessary. In this study, the author provides detailed comparison of the code/ standards with the FEA results to show the validity and application of particular design standard. To be fruitful with bellows, understanding of the elementary design and sizing inputs is important. Generally, the bellows are selected based on the datasheets available with bellow manufacturers. It is not so much that the datasheet values are inaccurate, but multiple combinations of dimensional parameters can result into multiple possible designs. Thus, it was crucial to understand the effect of each dimensional parameter of bellow on its behavior under various loading condition. Considering this need, a parametric study was carried out to find the effective design parameters. Based on the results of the parametric evaluation as well considering the design codes and standards, a methodology was developed for designing expansion bellows based on iterative evaluations using MS EXCEL macros. This Methodology can provide an optimum design of expansion bellow best suit for given input conditions. The study also includes a detailed FEA procedure for a set of bellow configurations carried out for determining the relationship between the analytical and practical behavior of bellows

Summary/Abstract In India, large number of commuters travel by means of buses, auto rickshaws, taxis and personal vehicles. Commuters face many problems such as lack of parking space for vehicles, increase in traffic congestion, dynamics in fuel price, and shortages of right of way complicated by unauthorised parking. With the introduction of metro, the scenario is supposed to change for metro cities to some extent. However, in order to increase the modal shift from private to public transport, it is essential to provide easy intermodal interchanges for which adequate planning of multimodal integration is essential. This report aims at improvement of the traffic flow under and around the proposed metro station by planning for appropriate lane widening based on the traffic forecasts for the horizon time period that the metro will be operational. The movement of pedestrians is improved by designing the station area for adequate infrastructure facilities like footpaths with sufficient width, guard railings and pedestrian crossings. This will help to resolve the bottlenecking and traffic congestions and will ultimately result in reduction of road accidents. This study considers various alternatives and on the basis of opportunities and constraints, selection of best alternative is done. In order to increase the ridership for the proposed metro station, well defined and legible feeder routes have been designed. This will make the proposed metro station accessible to the unconnected region within the catchment area. Special consideration for physically disabled commuters have been made in the form of ramps, continuous and widened footpath making it easy for commuter of any age gender and ability to access the metro station with any difficulty. To understand the total cost for actual execution of designs estimation for construction work is done, this estimation includes estimation of civil works as well as electrical items for street lighting, CCTV camera installation, traffic signal installation and landscaping and beautification of the station area. Landscaping and Beautification of the station area is important in order to improve ambiance of the station area. During design of multimodal integration due considerations are given to potential developments, All types of settlements are given equal importance thus providing all settlements with equal opportunities for development.

Summary/Abstract Quality is one of the most important parameters for the success of any construction activity in an organization. The measurement of quality in an integrated form is necessary to evaluate the performance of any project. A number of papers have been published for evaluating qualities of construction projects. However, limited studies are reported on the measurement of quality in an integrated form. To address this research gap in the body of knowledge, this study is aimed at identifying and analyzing the factors influencing the quality of road pavement throughout the lifecycle of a road project. Different stages of quality such as quality of concept, quality of design, quality of construction, quality of conformance and quality of performance are considered in this study. Based on both, detailed literature review and expert opinions, a total of 54 factors were identified and then a questionnaire was developed to obtain the opinions of respondents to measure the effect of each factor identified. The questionnaire was circulated to owners, engineers, contractors, design consultants, construction managers, and a total of 72 responses were received. The effect of each factor was measured in terms of its importance index and then were ranked accordingly. The reliability analysis of data obtained is done using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) v23. The result of this study demonstrates that the owner’s requirement and quality policy and effective quality management system found to be a highly significant factor at the conceptual stage. In the design quality, the nature and type of subgrade soil and design errors found to be extremely important factors. Similarly, the quality of raw materials i.e. aggregate, etc. and method of construction are of prime importance in the quality of construction. Effectiveness of QA/QC program and subgrade failure, free from rutting and shoving are significant factors for quality of conformance and performance respectively. The findings of this study will help the project managers to focus on the critical factors in order to achieve better quality in the construction of road projects, which will result in less maintenance cost right from concept-design to the performance stage of the project
